"Communicating" in SAME room without talking.....

Having 3 teenagers in our house at a time we noticed what (for us old fogies) was a truly amazing phenomena.....all 3 were "into" their OWN IPADS, mini-IPADS, Iphones, IPODS and although all 3 really do get along and love one another (as brothers and sisters - almost) - no-one spoke a word in 3 hours. THREE kids who love and care for one another but can't TALK orally. After a while I said "Hey - don't you guys like one another??" - the boy of the group assured me "Oh sure, Aunty, we do.....in fact your daughter is texting me just now!" - our daughter was only 2-1/2 feet away from him. TEXTING from 2-1/2 feet away??? I still remember the day our daughter got her IPHONE - we made sure she paid for it herself and paid for her own "monthly plan" - we couldn't understand why she needed it (we offered her our old TRAC phone any day any time) "Oh, but I can CALL my friends and YOU!!!" - CALL??? - does today's generation even know the etiquette of making a phone call??? I AM showing my age. I am from a generation where we had to "book" a call from Colombo to Nuwera Eliya (less than 100 miles away) and forget it to call USA - it was over 4-7 days - telegrammes were far quicker and easier. But, by George, when we DID reach our party on that line we TALKED!!!! - as in WORDS one on one. Today I see a whole generation who doesn't have the social skills to TALK to one another....phones (a shortened word of "telephone") aren't for CALLING (as in talking) to one another - they are only for TEXTING. Feel almost in a zombie world.....get out of my car at a supermarket and right in front of me are maybe 10 people just STOPPED (not even realizing a human is behind them) TEXTING happily in TEXT-land on their private iphones - some smiling, hopefully w/ good news....some frowning. I feel really lost in this "new world" and in many, many ways - I don't think I want to belong. YES, I do know how to "text" - but there is nothing so important in my life that can't WAIT until I talk (as in open mouth, put out tongue and speak words) to my loved ones. FEELING very sad that the NEW world is going to be "hooded up" into their own worlds without ability to communicate (orally) to one another.

Gluten-free, carb-free "bread" - who knew????

I have my Egyptian friend, Amina, to thank for this wonderful recipe for "oopsies" (I guess they were making something else and ran out of flour, so said "oopsie!") This is such a wonderful recipe not only for diabetics, but for those counting carbs and for those who are gluten-intolerant. Without further ado, here is the recipe for "oopsies"
“OOOPSIES” This recipe is great for diabetics, people with gluten allergies or people just trying to cut out carbs. Will you have a hard time living without bread? Oopsies are a good option. It’s a “bread” without carbs and can be eaten in a variety of ways. Oopsies: Makes 6-8 depending on size 3 eggs 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cream cheese a pinch of salt ½ tsp. baking powder (can be excluded) Separate the eggs, with the egg whites in one bowl and the egg yolks in another. Whip the egg whites together with the sale until very stiff. You should be able to turn the bowl over without the egg whites moving. Mix the egg yolks and the cream cheese well. If you choose, add the baking powder (this makes the Oopsie more bread like). Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mixture – try to keep the air in the egg whites. Put 6 large or 8 smaller oopsies on a baking tray Bake in middle of oven at 150 degrees (300 degrees F.) for about 25 minutes - until they turn golden. You can eat Oopsies as bread or use them as a bun for a sandwich or burger. You can also put different kinds of seeds on them before baking them, for instance poppy, sesame or sunflower seeds.

Pain.....

Pain is felt by all beings. Why do humans feel their pain is "different"??
